AND THEN, PERHAPS, A MEMORY
2026
Jacquard weaving (top section), weaving on traditional jack loom and screen printing (bottom section); cotton, ash wood.
Then, Perhaps, a Memory traces the stories of three Haitian women, journalist Michèle Montas, writer Marie-Célie Agnant, and Marie Wilnie Brézault, the artist’s mother, who emigrated to Quebec and New York at different times.
In this monumental installation, the artist offers a reflection on grief, where visual fragmentation opens up spaces in which political, personal, and family memories intertwine and disrupt linear readings of history.
The artist would like to thank the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for its support in the production of this work. She extends her gratitude to Michèle Montas, Marie-Célie Agnant, Wilnie Brézault, Dominique Desbiens, and Chris Lloyd.
